Overview

The main requirement for completion of PhD/DBA program is the submission of a thesis. But this is an easy task after all the effort and“suffer” which lead to this happy instant! But we should get ready for it; therefore, this webinar will get you ready for the submission process.

There are four main parts of this process:

  • Prior to Submission: when candidates get green light by the supervisory team to submit, the plagiarism test is performed and the examiners selected.
  • Submission: when candidates submit their thesis following the university procedure
  • Examination: examiners are to examine the thesis, provide a completed and signed reporting form, including the examiners’ final recommendation. In case Viva is part of the process the examiners actively participate in this examination activity as well.
  • After examiners reports are received: reports are sent to the research office/Head of Postgraduate Studies and supervisors to liaise on the preparation of a resolution to be presented to the committee at the university level, who is responsible for determining the final thesis examination outcome based on the received reports.

The examination process can be long and exhausting for a student, but the graduation is not very far anymore!

This free interactive webinar will be starting at 13:00 UK(GMT). To maximise the learning for participants, questions may be posted to the webinar discussion board after your registration. These will be addressed during the webinar.

Key Take-Aways

I passed my viva many years ago, in 1993; however, this does not mean that I have forgotten how it was. I do recall it as it was just yesterday … After my viva, I was part of many Viva exams, of my students at bachelor, masters and PhD level as well as examination & viva committee member of many other students’ theses.

I started my research path as a young researcher at the University of Technology Vienna (Austria), where I obtained my PhD from and at University of Ljubljana (Slovenia). After finishing my PhD, I was working as a Researcher - free-lancer, when I was involved in several national and international interdisciplinary research projects working with research groups from different international universities and research institutions. My research career continued at the Austrian Academy of Science.

In 2003, I was appointed at University of Maribor, Slovenia as an Assistant Professor in the field of Quality Management and Environmental Protection Management, teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. In 2006, I was elected to Associate Professor and in 2014 to Full Professor.

From 2014 to 2021, I was engaged with the University of Wollongong in Dubai, Faculty of Business as an active researcher, with strong engagement in the development and support of the UOWD research platform, the Higher Degree by Research (PhD/DBA) program.

During all my university career time I was engaged in research and/or teaching which is evidenced in my publication record, which contains over 350 items, including journal publications, conference participations, teaching activities and other research and teaching related activities.

I hope I will be able to pass some of my experience to you and help you progressing faster in your PhD journey.

Thesis stage: Research planning: Getting ready for data collection

I have just signed up to this hub and it has been insightful. It was quite daunting at first and I’m thinking if do-able. But with me in this platform I can foresee a clearer future. Thanks to the organisers.

Thesis stage: Thesis research proposal development

I felt way better after the session especially that I got to talk to other PhD candidates that are struggling like me. I felt hope because my advisor never answers so I felt like I could have some guidance here.
