Overview

You have found your unique research question. Correct?

You have created your novel theoretical framework. Correct?

Now you have to develop hypotheses to start thinking about the most appropriate methodology. Correct?

In addition, you know that it is important to write your hypotheses in a correct way.

This webinar will help you in formulating your hypotheses to make them specific and testable, as well as linking them to the research question and the most appropriate methodology expected in any PhD, DBA or other doctoral program you might be enrolled in.

During this webinar, we will be discussing all the above topics, along with the difference between a hypothesis and preposition, to help you understand the central and bridging role of a hypothesis within research. Further steps in formulating a hypothesis and practical examples of good hypotheses will be presented.

This free interactive webinar will start at 12.00noon UK time(GMT+1).

To maximise the learning for participants, questions may be posted to the webinar discussion board after your registration. These will be addressed during the webinar.

Key Take-Aways

This webinar will assist doctoral students in:

  2. Learning how to formulate a good hypothesis, which bridges the research question and selected methodology.
  3. Discussing practical examples of hypotheses related to conceptual research framework.
  4. Distinguishing between a hypothesis and a preposition.

I passed my viva many years ago, in 1993; however, this does not mean that I have forgotten how it was. I do recall it as it was just yesterday … After my viva, I was part of many Viva exams, of my students at bachelor, masters and PhD level as well as examination & viva committee member of many other students’ theses.

I started my research path as a young researcher at the University of Technology Vienna (Austria), where I obtained my PhD from and at University of Ljubljana (Slovenia). After finishing my PhD, I was working as a Researcher - free-lancer, when I was involved in several national and international interdisciplinary research projects working with research groups from different international universities and research institutions. My research career continued at the Austrian Academy of Science.

In 2003, I was appointed at University of Maribor, Slovenia as an Assistant Professor in the field of Quality Management and Environmental Protection Management, teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. In 2006, I was elected to Associate Professor and in 2014 to Full Professor.

From 2014 to 2021, I was engaged with the University of Wollongong in Dubai, Faculty of Business as an active researcher, with strong engagement in the development and support of the UOWD research platform, the Higher Degree by Research (PhD/DBA) program.

During all my university career time I was engaged in research and/or teaching which is evidenced in my publication record, which contains over 350 items, including journal publications, conference participations, teaching activities and other research and teaching related activities.

I hope I will be able to pass some of my experience to you and help you progressing faster in your PhD journey.

Learning from people from different parts of the world is exhilarating. May there be more of this kind of endeavor in the future.

Thesis stage: Research planning: Getting ready for data collection

I have just signed up to this hub and it has been insightful. It was quite daunting at first and I’m thinking if do-able. But with me in this platform I can foresee a clearer future. Thanks to the organisers.

Thesis stage: Post Doctoral & Publishing

As a postgraduate supervisor, who is already a Ph.D. holder, I was delighted to find a resource that I can continue to develop from. I will continue to share information about DoctorateHub with my students and peers. Thank you.

Thesis stage: Thesis research proposal development

I felt way better after the session especially that I got to talk to other PhD candidates that are struggling like me. I felt hope because my advisor never answers so I felt like I could have some guidance here.
